Resumo:In this thesis we review the evolution of the Common Agricultural Policy related to environmental and rural development in the national and European context. The post-war era, where food resources were scarce, motivated the implementation of measures inspired in the productivistic agricultural model, these have led to the Reform of 1992, outlining Agenda 2000 - which exposed the need for further reform - in which the Agro-Environmental Policy and Rural Development were evoked and later concretized in the Reform of 2003. In these Reforms we highlight the development of the Agro-Environmental Policies embodied in three stages: the first denoting a pioneer environmental sensitivity, despite budgetary control; the second is marked by a well established concern regarding the environment, although it represents a transitional phase to a third stage that assumes supervisory and environmental protection policies in conjunction with principles of rural development. In this thesis we focused on the application of Agro-Environmental Measures in the Alentejo region. To this end, we worked on secondary information (1994 - 2002) and used an analysis criteria that allowed us to identify the major Agricultural Production Systems in the Alentejo region along with major Agro-Environmental Measures implemented in the area, thus enabling data confrontation
