Resumo:The most frequent Crystal arthropathies (CA) are Gout and Chondrocalcinosis. This study characterizes the population of patients followed in the consultation of Osteoarthritis and CA on the North Lisbon Hospital Centre. It also made a comparative study between patients with gout and chondrocalcinosis, in order to determine sociodemographic, joint involvement, risk factors and therapy differences. In this consultation, 253 patients were followed, of which 51 have been diagnosed with chondrocalcinosis and 32 with gout. It was found in chondrocalcinosis female predominance, a higher prevalence in older ages and greater involvement of the joints of the upper limb relative to gout. The cardiovascular risk factors with an already known relationship with gout, are also present in a large percentage of patients with chondrocalcinosis. In terms of therapy, colchicine is used in the majority of patients in both diseases and there is a great use of chondroprotective drugs in chondrocalcinosis. Although both are CA, these two diseases have significant differences representing two clinically distinct diseases.
