Resumo:Stephen Duncombe states that Thomas More's Utopia functions as a machine of imagination liberating our thought from what is possible in order to imagine alternatives, and to prevent us from returning passively to our place in the world. Fredric Jameson advances the concept of negative utopia that relates to the utopian impulse, corresponding to the need to create alternatives to the present status quo, defining this impulse as an interval that allows critical moments of thought, by comparing the present lived and the future imagined. In this context, it is relevant to refer the following concepts: the concept of strangeness by Odo Marquard's; negative utopia tangent to the idea of dystopia and heterotopia, addressed by Michel Foucault; the Situationist Dérive that provides a detour from the familiar.Through a methodology of research led by practice, I propose to identify, in contemporary art, the presence of the utopian impulse understood as a critical device, promoting the construction of imagination machines that inscribe in art the function of politicizing daily life. The research program is structured in two chapters, the first will put forward the conceptual framework of the problem that was enunciated, anchored in Thomas More’ Utopia and in its reading as a machine of imagination. The second chapter will define a platform for the reading of my artistic work integrated in the context of the authors and artists brought to this project. I will try to stabilize original models for the construction of my machines of imagination, through the creation of audiovisual pieces, sculpture, drawing, books, publications and test different exhibition strategies and moments
