Monthly trips to Ratones Grande island (27º29'30"S and 48º36'42"W) were made from April 1995 to March 1996 to record amphibian, reptile, bird, and mammal species. The island surface is of 194,180m², measuring 1,050 meters at its largest length and 280 meters at its widest part. It is located between the Island of Santa Catarina and the mainland. The secondary Atlantic Forest is its predominant vegetation. One amphibian species, 4 reptile, 29 native bird, 2 non-native bird, and 3 mammal species were found. The low diversity of vertebrates is mainly due to the inesxistence of fresh water springs and to human occupation and consequent environmental degradation.

No período de abril de 1995 a março de 1996, foram realizadas saídas mensais onde registraram-se as espécies silvestres de anfíbios, répteis, aves e mamíferos na Ilha de Ratones Grande (27º29'30"S e 48º36'42"W). A Ilha possui uma superfície de 194.180m², o maior comprimento é de 1.050m e a maior largura de 280m. Lozalica-se entre a Ilha de Santa Catarina e o continente, tendo como formação vegetal predominante Floresta Atlântica secundária. Foram identificadas uma espécie de anfíbio, quatro de répteis, 51 de aves, sendo das delas introduzidas, e três de mamíferos. A baixa diversidade de vertebrados é atribuída principalmente à inexistência de fontes naturais de água doce e à ocupação humana e consequente degradação ambiental.
