Description

The integration of simulation has been considered an asset in learning technical skills in various domains. The use of simulation to enhance learning is becoming a common practice, not only because of the results obtained, but also because clinical placement has recently had some constraints in nursing courses (Coyne, Rands, Frommolt, Kain, Plugge, & Mitchell, 2018). There are already successful experiences in the use of technologies as a means to debate the issue of sexually transmitted infections. In Brazil, an important example for this process is the Virtual Learning Environment of the Unified Health System (AVASUS, available through the link: https://avasus.ufrn.br/), a platform developed by the Ministry of Health of Brazil in partnership with the Laboratory of Technological Innovation in Health (LAIS) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Technology-mediated education has been an expanding area of educational provision in higher education institutions. This study intends to explore the perception of nursing students about the use of videos as an educational resource in nursing education in the field of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).This research started in May 2021. The videos developed to integrate as an educational resource integrate real sharing of projects in the area of IST, implemented in Care Units in the Community and in Private Social Solidarity Institutions with a focus on working with vulnerable groups in the area of IST. These videos also include simulations that portray nursing consultation scenarios in the context of education and counseling in sexual health and prevention of STIs. Interviews with experts in the field are also included in the videos, namely infectious diseases, Nurses attending hospital consultations for infectious diseases, Public Health Nurses, Social Workers with community intervention, Nurses with intervention with vulnerable groups and key populations in the area of IST.
