A institucionalização dos idosos é cada vez uma realidade mais frequente nos nossos dias, sendo que, nem sempre esta opção é encarada favoravelmente pelos idosos, nem as instituições desenvolvem as atividades que melhor promovem o bem-estar dos seus utentes. Torna-se, então, fulcral a promoção do envelhecimento ativo nessas organizações de modo a tornar a institucionalização e a velhice processos mais proveitosos para os indivíduos. O presente estudo tem por objetivo proceder à apresentação de uma resposta que se pretende seja aplicada a uma instituição como forma a avaliar a opinião dos seus residentes relativamente ao conceito de envelhecimento ativo e a sua importância relacionada com a estimulação física e neuro-cognitiva, assim como compreender a sua importância no relacionamento e interação social entre os diversos idosos institucionalizados. Optou-se por uma metodologia qualitativa de modo a tornar possível a concretização do estudo, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas a uma amostra composta por alguns utentes, à diretora técnica e à animadora sociocultural da instituição. Concluiu-se que predomina uma visão negativa sobre o envelhecimento e a velhice em idosos institucionalizados, no entanto, apesar do pensamento inicial ir ao encontro desta ótica, a participação nas atividades apresentadas fomenta o envelhecimento ativo dos idosos institucionalizados.
The institutionalization of the elderly is increasingly a reality today, and this option is not always favored by the elderly, nor do the institutions carry out the activities that best promote the well-being of their users. The promotion of active aging in these organizations is thus central to making institutionalization and old age processes more beneficial to individuals. The present study aims to present a response that was intended to be applied to an institution as a way to evaluate the opinion of its residents regarding the concept of active aging and its importance related to physical and neuro-cognitive stimulation, How to understand their importance in the relationship and social interaction among the various institutionalized elderly. A qualitative methodology was chosen so as to make it possible to carry out the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sample composed of some users, the technical director and the sociocultural animator of the institution. It was concluded that a negative view of aging and old age predominates in institutionalized elderly people, however, although the initial thought is to meet this perspective, participation in the activities presented fosters the active aging of the institutionalized elderly.
