As bibliotecas escolares e o papel do professor bibliotecário

A Biblioteca é uma realidade milenar que surgiu na sequência da necessidade de arquivar documentos para testemunhar, no futuro, as vivências, as descobertas e as riquezas do passado. A Biblioteca constitui uma memória do passado da Humanidade. A Biblioteca apresentava-se, no passado, como um depósito de livros e foi conquistando o seu lugar na vida cultural do Homem. A sua sede de conhecimento e a sua necessidade de interagir com o livro levam-no a ser um utilizador assíduo do espaço Biblioteca. O reconhecimento da importância da Biblioteca na educação e formação do Homem conduz a sociedade à Biblioteca Escolar, detendo a função de disponibilizar um espaço de consulta e empréstimo de fundo documental. Os finais do século XX e inícios do século XXI assistem ao desabrochar das novas tecnologias, ao aparecimento da internet, à massiva quantidade de informação em diferentes suportes e formatos. A consciência de que a Biblioteca Escolar e o Professor Bibliotecário poderiam desempenhar um papel fundamental na orientação dos alunos, nessa imensidão de informação, colocou este espaço no centro aglutinador das actividades da escola. A Biblioteca Escolar e o Professor Bibliotecário têm, nos dias de hoje, o papel de promover o desenvolvimento de competências no domínio da literacia da informação junto dos alunos, pois, mais do que nunca, é imprescindível fazer uma leitura compreensiva do que se lê de forma a ser capaz de seleccionar e tratar a informação, transformando-a em conhecimento mobilizável e aplicando-o em situações específicas reais. O Professor Bibliotecário a missão, não impossível, mas árdua de envolver os alunos, ou seja, ensiná-los e ajudá-los a pensar, a escrever, a dominar a linguagem oral, a inovar, a criar, a pesquisar, a analisar, a seleccionar, a avaliar, a aplicar, a trabalhar em equipa e a relacionar os conhecimentos e aplicá-los em situações reais. Tem, ainda, a função de trabalhar colaborativamente com os docentes da escola de forma a auxiliá-los na sua tarefa de promoção das literacias, em articulação com o currículo.

The library is an age-old reality, which emerged connected with the need to archive documents which would confirm, in future, experiences, discoveries and resources of the past. The library is a memory of the past of mankind. The library appeared in the past as an amount of books and it has been acquiring its place in man‟s cultural life. His desire for knowledge and the need to interact with the book lead him to be a constant user of the Library space. The recognition of the importance of library in education and training of man leads society to the school library, which held the role of providing a space for consultation and loan of documentary fund. The late 20th and early 21st centuries attend the flourishing of new technologies, the emergence of internet, to the massive amount of information in different media and formats. The awareness that the school library and the teacher librarian could play a key role in students' orientation, in the vastness of information, put this space in a focal point of school activities. The school library and the teacher librarian have nowadays, the role of promoting the development of skills in the field of literacy information among students, because more than ever, it is essential to make a comprehensive reading of anything we read in order to be able to select and process information, turning it into knowledge and applying it in specific and real situations. The teacher librarian has, besides his not impossible but difficult mission of involving students, such as: teaching and helping them to think, write, control oral language, innovate, create, search, analyze, select, assess, apply, work in group, connect knowledge and use it in real situations. It‟s also his / her task to work together with other school teachers in order to assist and help them promoting literacy (or literacies) connected with the curriculum.
