Despite being relatively new, blockchain (BC) is already a reality, including in the public sector. Based on a systematic review, this paper reveals the context of BC applied in the public sector, highlighting initiatives and discussing the main concerns that should be considered in these initiatives, particularly related to scalability, lack of laws and regulations, and energy consumption—this one juts the importance of choosing a sustainable consensus mechanism. Also, the potential uses are identified: health, energy, supply chain, food traceability, and e-Gov.
