Cardiovascular effects and acute toxicity of the aqueous extract of Costus spicatus leaves (AECS) were studied in rats and mice. In non anaesthetized normotensive rats (n = 6), AECS (0.5, 1.0, 5.0 and 10.0 mg/kg; i.v., randomly) induced hypotension associated with tachycardia.
