Resumo:Artist Statement   This text is an excerpt from an anti-translation (or maybe an ultra-translation) of Haitian poet Jacqueline Beaugé-Rosier’s 1966 long poem A vol d’ombre. Composed under dictatorship and out of print for decades, this poem offers a passionate cry to a spiritual lover. It resounds with themes of silence, distance, loss, and stubborn devotion. Here, my discarded word choices mark instances of error and points of friction with the original text. Negative space becomes riddled with my own dyaspora wanderings and desire. Together the texts grapple with process, memory, catastrophe, and meaning-making over time.
