Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This paper analyses the worship of Nuno Álvares Pereira in the 1920’s, respecting the beginnings of catholic boy-scouting in Portugal. Álvares Pereira was a Portuguese Middle Ages knight, and over the two last centuries he was seen as a consensus national hero by opposite political factions. The debate among his sanctity, as well as his heroic nature, became the centre of all arguments of Corpo Nacional de Scouts, the catholic scouting association in Portugal, which was growing from Braga, a northern city where the headquarters were settled up, towards south. Besides being a question of ethical and religious matter to arrange the future of Portuguese youth, this debate goes beyond the implementation of Estado Novo dictatorship, and competed with new 20th century Virgin Mary worships.
