Resumo:Wood is being used by humans since the early civilizations, and was one of the most important materials used the building construction. In recent years, due to ecological and environmental policies and restrictions in Europe, wood, wood products and wood structural elements have being positioned as a green raw material, Ecologically Sustainable and renewable material with a positive impact in the buildings carbon dioxide emissions in comparison to other construction materials, such as steel, concrete and bricks. The EUs driving policies for a competitive economy with low carbon emissions, [1], boost its architectural and engineering application in the building industry, but actually subjected to an higher demand in terms of its life cycle performance basic requirements, such as the sustainable use of natural resources, mechanical resistance and stability and Safety in case of fire, among others, [2].
