Literacia em saúde oral em Portugal
| Resumo: | Introdução: Um dos principais problemas de saúde da população no geral são as doenças da cavidade oral. A ausência de saúde oral pode comprometer a saúde em geral e diretamente a qualidade de vida do indivíduo. Torna-se crucial a instrução e a educação da população para que cada vez mais haja uma consciencialização acerca da importância que os cuidados de saúde oral têm na saúde em geral. Objetivo: Determinar o nível de literacia em saúde oral da população portuguesa, avaliando o estado de saúde oral da amostra em estudo e compreendendo quais os fatores que estão relacionados com os níveis de literacia em saúde oral. Metodologia: De modo a atingir os objetivos propostos, foi realizado um questionário aos pacientes que realizaram consultas de Higiene Oral, aliado a um rastreio de saúde oral observacional. Resultados: A amostra deste estudo foi constituída por 120 participantes, sendo a maioria do género feminino (n=74; 61,7%) e na faixa etária entre os 20 e os 30 anos de idade (n=36; 30,0%). O valor do Índice de CPO aumenta à medida que a idade aumenta e é maior no género masculino. Foi possível aferir que participantes que possuem melhores níveis de literacia em saúde oral, têm um Índice de CPO mais baixo. Conclusão: Os resultados evidenciam a importância que os níveis de literacia em saúde possuem na condição da saúde oral e geral dos indivíduos. |

The absence of oral health can compromise health in general and directly the individual's quality of life. Education and instruction of the population is crucial so that there is increasing awareness of the importance that oral health care has on health in general. Objective: To determine the level of oral health literacy of the portuguese population, evaluating the oral health status of the sample under study and understanding which factors are related to levels of oral health literacy. Methodology: In order to achieve the proposed objectives, a questionnaire was administered to patients undergoing Oral Hygiene consultations, combined with observational oral health screening. Results: T he sample of this study consisted of 120 participants, the majority of whom were female (n=74; 61.7%) and aged between 20 and 30 years old (n=36; 30.0 %)%). The value of the CPO Index increases as age increases and is higher in males. It was possible to verify that participants who have better levels of oral health literacy have a lower OPC index. Conclusion: The results highlight the importance that health literacy levels have on the oral and general health status of individuals. |
