O “terremoto” provocado por Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo na América Portuguesa
| Resumo: | This article aims to discuss and present some of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo’s actions in the Portuguese America. We have tried to approach this period, considering the changes occurred, especially in relation to education which suffered a strong impact because of the Jesuits expulsion from Portugal and its colonies and the educational system reorganization which was under the Estate control. Besides, we have focused the Treaty Limit (Tratado de Limites) as well as the projects that the chief minister of the monarch D. José I wanted to implement in order to correct the problems in the reign in relation to the other European courts. |
