Nursing interventions for siblings of children with chronic illness: integrative literature review
| Resumo: | Introduction: The incidence of chronic diseases in children has increased in recent years, impacting the family, particularly the siblings. Objective: To identify nursing interventions to minimize the impact of chronic illness on siblings. Methodological Procedures: An integrative literature review was conducted in the databases MEDLINE®, CINAHL® Complete, Nursing & Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials on July 9, 2023. Inclusion criteria were articles published in Portuguese, Spanish, and English between 2013 and 2023. The Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) descriptors used were: siblings; brothers; sisters; nurse; chronic disease; chronic illness. Results: Identified nursing interventions included play therapy, the inclusion of siblings in care, and psycho-emotional support. Conclusion: Nursing interventions reduce the negative impact of chronic illness on the family. Healthy siblings should be supported and integrated throughout the entire healthcare process. |
