Resumo:This dissertation reflects on ways of understanding architecture through photographs. Assuming that photography is an essential tool for the dissemination, conservation, archiving and research of architecture, it questions the way in which architecture is mirrored in this two-dimensional images of reality. Thus, different photographs are analysed in an enquiry that aims to highlight various aspects of this relationship: the limits of photography as a means of representing spatial reality; the influence of colour on the reading of an image; the distancing of photography as a document and the approximation to abstraction; the link between the architect and the photographic exhibition of his work. In short, the link between the two areas is addressed through the description and comparison of photographs, with the view to clarifying possible latent links between the physical and definitive reality of architecture and the construction with light in photography.
