DIY resources for specialised translation - A three-step multimodal methodology
| Resumo: | In this paper, we propose a three-step multimodal methodology for DIY specialised translation resources, within an education focused on the development of multiskills (visual, technological and technical skills). The methodology is divided into three steps: Step 1 - Pre-translation (compilation of DIY Parallel Corpora, creation of a Translation Memory, extraction of bilingual terminology); Step 2 - Translation (translation activity using Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools) and Step 3 - Post-translation (creation of multimodal byproducts from the previously created resources, such as word clouds and digital glossaries). This methodology was put into practice as part of a Corpus Linguistics subject within the Master's in Translation and Multilingual Communication course (2020-2021) at University of Minho. It was designed to equip translators with the knowledge to create their own specialised resources, but also to reuse those same resources for different purposes, namely multimodal content creation, which is highly seeked after in today’s market. |
