Softening of cotton by enzymatic hydrolysis
| Resumo: | The enzymatic hydrolysis of cotton with cellulase is studied using different treatment times on normal and mercerized fibres. The effect of the treatment is evaluated by weight loss, breaking load, copper number, dye affinity, moisture regain and the Kawabata evaluation system for fabrics. A controlled hydrolysis makes the fabric softer, fuller and less stiff and gives a better drape. A long treatment time has a negative effect on handle. |
