Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:The technological progress of communications and the exponential growth of the World Wide Web (WWW), has led to an overload of information. Every day, we are inundated by data, and pressured to analyse and interpret it, leading to the information anxiety phenomenon. Information is and should be understood as a patrimony that adds value and gives meaning to all the activities that move the world. There is a need to organize and understand the existing affinities and dynamics in science. It is important to perceive the evolution in science, analysing the social interactions, trying to understand how it is affecting the knowledge production. The digital libraries of scientific knowledge present, in their majority, massive lists of scientific SKOs. Although there are filters and metrics, these are not efficient for a researcher, because they do not allow visualizing the affinities and dynamics of science. This thesis focuses this problematic in the universe of ALGORITMI Research Centre of University of Minho. The way which the Scientific Knowledge Objects (SKOs) are displayed/communicated constitutes a problem, by hindering the navigation and search of the researcher. The main goal is to facilitate an efficient access to information, so in this sense, Information Visualization (InfoVis) is the knowledge subdomain which allows the perceptual translation of the architecture/dynamic of science. InfoVis brings together a set of intellectual traditions since Computer Science, Communication/Information Design, Cartography, Human-Computer Interaction, among others. This discipline proves to be fundamental for the achievement of clarification that is missing on the science universe. As a result of this thesis, a solution based on four interactive interfaces are presented, based on the specifications of the research centre. The proposal is substantiated, on a review of relevant studies, and allows the perception of the affinities and the communication of the different SKOs produced. The data used in this project was collected from the web site of the research Centre. These contributions are aimed to the community and for others interested.
