Understanding recreational vehicles travel behavior in the Iberian Peninsula through user-generated data
| Resumo: | Recreational vehicle tourism has become increasingly popular as travelers seek greater flexibility and autonomy in exploring destinations. This shift has significant implications for mobility patterns and the development of tourism infrastructure. In the Iberian Peninsula, favorable conditions—such as a mild climate and a rich cultural heritage— have further fueled the growth of recreational vehicle tourism. However, despite this expansion, empirical research on specific travel routes, regional preferences, and spatial dynamics remains limited. This study addresses this gap by analyzing user-generated data, 90,654 reviews, from a digital platform dedicated to recreational vehicle tourism to identify the most frequented travel routes and stopovers in Spain and Portugal. By examining regional and seasonal variations in recreational vehicle travel, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of traveler behavior and preferences, offering novel insights into recreational vehicle tourism patterns across the Iberian Peninsula. |
