Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This paper examines relationships between student cultural capital and reading literacy of fourth graders using 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) in Slovakia, Czechia and Poland. Parent education and books at home were found to be the strongest predictors of student reading literacy, followed by frequency of parental reading. Positive reading attitudes of parents were found to be important only in Czechia and Poland. Number of physical books at home was more important for lower socioeconomic background families in Slovakia and Czechia. Subsequently, the mediating factors of positive student attitudes were examined. Gender and language at home were also related to reading.
