Resumo:We live in a digital age where essentially everything has become virtual or technological. People want to have all the information at their fingertips and have the independence to manage everything they have an impact on, particularly their spending. As a result, there has been a large amount of investment in the development of applications in various sectors. The energy sector is no exception and energy apps become part of consumers' daily lives, especially since power costs are an expense that they can have an influence on. These apps enable real-time monitoring of expenses and consumption anomalies, offering valuable insights and supporting data-driven decision-making. Users can set spending control targets and track progress in cost reduction. These analyses help customers identify usage patterns and improvement opportunities, fostering awareness and the adoption of sustainable lifestyles, ultimately leading to reduced costs, and contributing to a more sustainable future. In this manner, we proposed a theoretical model for the adoption of these applications, supported by an empirical study conducted in the Portuguese market. One of our key findings from the validated model is that the intention to make sustainable purchases positively affects cost savings. In other words, customers aiming to adopt more sustainable purchasing habits have a positive influence on their monthly energy consumption costs.
