Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Introduction: Chest pain is one of the clinical signs of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and is a driver of patient referral to emergency departments (EDs). Nurses must respond appropriately to continuously minimize severity criteria, with appropriate stratification and rapid referral, thus directly impacting total ischemia time and consequent comorbidities. Objective: To assess nurses' knowledge of the occurrence of ACS in people with chest pain in an ED and its relationship with sociodemographic and professional characteristics. Methods: Observational, analytical-cross-sectional, quantitative study, with the application of a questionnaire to a sample of 73 nurses. Results: The sample was predominantly female (68.5%), aged between 24 and 61 years. The mean knowledge score was 56.03 (SD = 13.51), indicating a median knowledge level. The knowledge variable showed a positive correlation with length of service in the emergency department (p < 0.05). In addition, statistically significant differences were observed according to sex (p = 0.022). Maleparticipants presented higher mean knowledge scores. Conclusion: The level of knowledge fell short of the maximum possible and desirable. Cross-cutting educational strategies within the topic, with a practical component, are suggested to increase its development.
