Resumo:This dissertation, called Death Drives in Contemporary Art: Notes on relevant universes, aims to sustain a theoretical reflection on the importance of death in contemporary art’s creations, with meaning in my artistic practice. For this purpose, some central poles of symptomatic manifestations of the infiltration of death in the art, prior to contemporary art, will be analyzed (I called them Style and Transgression, Deconstruction of the Human Body and The Power of Laughter). This initial analysis makes possible to address some of the core subjects which I define as central to the study of death drives in the art of today. These main centers of study and analysis that I chose to enhance are Failure, Irony, Memorials, Childhood, Disappearance, Archives, Rites of Passage, Collective Deaths, Individual Death, and a Feeling of Death in Contemporary Painting which I can’t fail to mention due to their close connection with my project. This theoretical body of work intends to support a reflection on my artistic project called A Conflict of Drives, where I present the results of my practice and the concepts and fundamentals that guide me in it. Of those concepts, I chose to highlight the confrontation between drives of life and drives of death, felt throughout my work
