Resumo:Background : Overactive Bladder is a syndrome defined as urgency, with or without urge incontinence, in the absence of another condition that explains the symptoms. Intravesical injection with botulinum toxin is a safe and effective alternative that is being increasingly used to treat overactive bladder refractory to standard management. The aim of this study is to analyze the characteristics and satisfaction of the population with overactive bladder treated with botulinum toxin at the University Urology Clinic of Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon, Portugal. Methods : Observational transversal study of 35 patients treated at the University Urology Clinic of Hospital de Santa Maria. Results : 35 patients were interviewed, mainly female and about 61 years old on average. 20 of them declared themselves satisfied or very satisfied with the treatment, whereas 21 classified the improvement promoted in their day to day life as significant or very significant. Conclusions : Despite the small dimensions of the study, it appears that most of the patients benefited from the treatment with intravesical injections of botulinum toxin.
