Resumo:The anaerobic speed reserve (ASR), which refers to the difference between the maximum aerobic speed (MAS) and the maximum sprint speed (MSS), is a good indicator for prescription and evaluation of the athlete/player. The present study had two objectives, to compare the anaerobic speed reserve and its components in different age groups of youth soccer and to determine whether soccer training in youth teams influences the anaerobic speed reserve and its components. The sample consisted of 42 male athletes, from three youth football teams, who participated in the Campeonato Regional da Madeira, in the 2021/2022 season. All participated in the Football 11 competition. The three teams analised were from sub14 age groups (n=14); sub15 (n=18) and sub17(n=10). The result of the present study allowed to demonstrate that there are differences between sub14 and the two older tiers (sub15 and sub17), mainly in the maximum sprint speed, derived from the peak of growth and motor coordination of the athletes. As for the maximum aerobic speed, there is a later adaptation, since this parameter was significantly higher in sub17 when compared with sub14 and sub15. On the other hand, when comparing the two moments of the season, beginning and half of the season, the sub14 group improved the maximum aerobic speed. As for the sub15 and sub17 there was a decrease in the anaerobic velocity reserve, mainly as a result of a decrease in maximum sprint speed and maintenance of Maximal aerobic speed. However, the specific training characteristics that optimize these parameters are not yet clearly confirmed.
