Summary:The role of arterial blood pressure control in the secondary prophylaxis of stroke is well documented. However, its contribution to the reduction of the mortality rate associated with these events has not been clearly established yet, particularly, in the context of acute stroke. Despite the vast research literature on pathophysiological mechanisms, clinical trials have not yet been conclusive, in regards to the role of controlling arterial blood pressure in the acute phase of the stroke for the prognosis of these patients. The aim of this study is to summarize the latest findings of the role of arterial blood pressure monitoring, with emphasis on the 24-hour ABPM, in the acute context of stroke and to hypothesize about the way in which the blood pressure profile of this phase may influence this disease's prognosis (up to 3 months).
