Resumo:The information about the production cost, the productivity and the knowledge of the elements that make up the production cost are fundamental for decision taking in the adoption of techniques by farmers to carry on their agriculture activities. This work pretends to make analysis on production, production cost and the levels of profit the crops namely tomato, cabbage and carrots provide comparatively to the two irrigation technologies used in the cultivating condition of farmers in the Santiago`s Island. For that an inquiry data collection sheet was formulated to register from farmers all techniques and economic information regarding the above-mentioned crops as field trips are carried on their farms. The results demonstrated that producing carrot under the drip irrigation system guarantees higher productivity in relation to the traditional system. However, the same cannot be said for tomato and cabbage. In relation to the production cost comparatively to that of the irrigation technology systems, the statistical analysis showed no significant differences. Yet, results demonstrated that the production of the two above crops under both technologies is rentable and saves water up 50% when the same are practiced under the drip irrigation system. So, it can conclude that the level of production and the production period determines the farmer yield. This is because in the hot season the prices of these products are higher and consequently the farmer keeps higher income.
