Pension system in the United Kingdom and the shift from DB to DC scheme

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:This paper examines the key issues relating to the UK pension system. It reviews the current system of pension provision, describes the recent reforms, and checks the legal regulatory and actuarial framework for occupational pension schemes. Also, it outlines the different types of risks and returns from membership of defined benefit and defined contribution pension schemes and advantages and disadvantages of transferring out from the defined benefits scheme to defined contribution one. The main point was to examine if the financial regulatory guidance that "an adviser should start from the assumption that a transfer will be unsuitable" is outdated and whether a transaction is right for the individual and should be assessed on a case by case basis from a neutral starting position.
