Obturator muscle endometriosis : a rare presentation
| Resumo: | Endometriosis is a progressive and estrogen-dependent disease characterized by the development of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus, is a common cause of cyclic and chronic pelvic pain in reproductive age woman and leads to considerable morbidity. Aetiology and pathogenesis has not been fully understood, and there is no clinically diagnostic method or pathognomonic clinical finding which may allow the diagnosis without surgery and histopathologic evaluation. In this paper we present the case of a 32-year-old woman who resorted to the Gynecology Obstetrics consultation due to severe dysmenorrhea and pain located on the inner right thigh. A single nodular lesion was found inside the right obturator internus muscle, and based in history and magnetic resonance findings, an endometrioma has been suspected. The diagnosis of endometriosis was confirmed thought laparoscopic removal of the lesion and posterior histopathologic evaluation. After surgery there was pain relief and there was an improvement in the ability for right limb mobilization, with no recurrence of endometriosis at follow-up visit, 4 months later. |
