Tipografia experimental: conceção de uma tipografia experimental CianArp, gerada pela desconstrução de um atlas botanigráfico da Serra de Montejunto, com base na técnica fotográfica da cianotipia e na simbiose com a obra de Hans Arp

Resumo:This theoretical-practical investigation aims to study the creation of an experimental typography through the alternative photographic practice known as cyanotype, based on the flora present in the Montejunto Mountain Range. The resulting cyanotypes are combined with the formal universe of Hans Arp in a symbiotic process, thus obtaining formal solutions for the font in question. The work progresses towards something unique through contextualization on various topics that will be addressed throughout the fundamental investigation. The study begins by examining the history of cyanotype, dating back to 1842, so as to outline the path of inquiry into the creation of this experimental process. Additionally, the necessary processes and techniques used to achieve this (formula, methods and preservation) are determined as the research advances. The theoretical investigation continues by exploring the field of typography, seeking answers to formal questions related to the practical component. At this point, the history and techniques used by pioneers in this field are introduced, creating research subpoints that guide us toward experimental typography and how it is currently defined and studied. In this process, the analysis of the artist Hans Arp is also relevant, particularly his artworks, in order to obtain formal connections in a symbiotic process leading to the generated experimental typography. The analysis phase concludes with research on botany. This entails documenting the flora collected from the aforementioned location and presenting scientific data about it (family, species, climate, among others). The research question is then posed: how flora can be handled and transformed into experimental typography, passing through an artistic process of trial and error, aimed at the environmental aspect. Once the object of study has been completed, we move on to the practical component, which is conceived and created following the following workflow: collecting 26 distinct species from the intervention area, the Montejunto Mountain Range; process of drying the plants; creating the cyanotypes; and finally, designing the experimental font CianArp. An experimental typography is generated using twenty-six different species of flora, collected and recorded in a field journal, combined in a symbiotic process with the formal universe of Hans Arp. The practice used to project sketches and drawings for an experimental font emerges from an alternative photographic process. As a whole, the practical component will culminate in an artist's book reflecting the research foundation
