Resumo:This document presents the theme of the master's thesis entitled “From Nature to Art: (de)construction of a Quilt with Embroidery from Castelo Branco”. This is based on understanding the construction process, conservation, packaging and dissemination of Castelo Branco Embroidered Quilts with awareness of this Beiroa practice. As a case study, there is a quilt dating from the 18th century, from the Bacalhôa Palace. Of great historical value, with deep symbolic meaning and a huge aesthetic and artistic impact, the Castelo Branco Embroidered Quilts, in their thematic variation and technical components, are the result of the fusion between East and West, gained provincial specificities that allow their full individualization, being today recognized as a heritage element of great importance in the Beirã cultural identity. Knowing and understanding the history and traditional production of the materials that make up the piece - linen cloth (support) and silk thread (embroidery) - is essential for a correct intervention, helping the process of communication and dissemination of this centuries-old craft, which survives mainly in the district of origin. Due to the vicissitudes of his life, the textile under study was quite deformed, result of an intervention subsequent to production, incorrect handling and packaging, which gave it widespread tension problems, thus justifying the conservation and restoration intervention and the proposal to create an appropriate exhibition system. The information collected throughout the investigation highlighted the need to value the heritage wealth that these pieces represent. Thus, a Pedagogical Suitcase was developed aimed at children/young people in the 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Basic Education, with the aim of gathering knowledge about this Quilts and making it available, as a way of disseminating and raising awareness of this secular practice, covering materials and production techniques, forms of degradation and the most common conservation treatments.
