Sociodemographic aspects of Salvaterra de Magos at the end of the eighteenth century
| Resumo: | This work belongs to a wider program of Historical Demography having the characterization of demography during the Ancien Regime in Portugal for its purpose. In one among the numberless researches made within this program, the authors found three unpublished listings of the end of the eighteenth century (Salvaterra de Magos, Coruche and Samora Correia), with a very rich information concerning the demographic and familiar features of those regions. The work presented in this article is exactly the exploration of the first of those documents. After having characterized the demographic and sociodemographic structures ofthat region (dimension of the families, family structures, age difference between consorts, professional structures, etc.), the authors conclude that one is faced with a typical structure of the Ancien Regime. |
