The reception of the Falange in Latin American fascisms: the case of the Brazilian Integralist Action
| Resumo: | This article, from a transnational perspective, aims to identify the reception of the Spanish Falange within Latin American fascist movements, particularly in the AIB (Brazilian Integralist Action), based on three related concepts: Hispanidad, Catholicism, and empire. For Spain, Latin America was a dreamed space for the diffusion of Spanish-style fascism, and in this context, there was also an effort to attract Portugal into Spain’s gravitational field. Consequently, due to cultural traditions, Brazil became a space for the circulation of Falangism and Francoism. Drawing from Integralist press and the theoretical writings of the movement, the analysis aims to identify the importance of Spanish politics in the fight against communism and liberalism. |
