| Resumo: | In 1901, José de Souza Larcher (1821-1913) published thebook Impressões de Viagem. O que eu vi e ouvi atravez do Egyptoe da velha Europa, in two volumes, the result of two visits to Egypt(in 1894 and 1898), where, among many other historical andcultural accounts, he also left numerous observations on the Britishand Ottoman tutelage of Egypt. In this text we try to explain theessential features of the vision and opinion of José de SouzaLarcher, an engineer, writer and republican, who is probably lesswell known than Eça de Queirós, on the great political-economicmilitaryevents of the late 19th century in Egypt. |
