The importance of large tropical forests and environmental security: perspectives on tropical forests in the Great Lakes region

Resumo:The current state of the environment in Africa is deeply worrying. Despite being a continent with a rich natural heritage, Africa is facing a severe ecological crisis. In tropical Africa, forests are extremely important resources, both locally and globally,playing the role of carbon dioxide sink, among other functions. With this in mind, the role of anthropogenic pressures on the forests of the African Great Lakes region is analyzed, taking into account the dynamics of regional conflicts and the processes of environmental degradation and regional deforestation.
