| Resumo: | In Guinea-Bissau, at the Cacheu fort, a symbol not only of Portuguese colonial power but also the flag of the dark slavery trade that lasted for centuries, some statues of the empire literally lie mutilated, examples of Portuguese modernism that the Estado Novo used to project overseas power but also, equally, of nationalist exaltation of the homeland. This text attempts not only to identify these artistic objects but also to contextualize them then and now. |
