| Resumo: | This article describes the action research work which has been carried out in the town of Monchique, developed simultaneously by research professors and architecture and design students, in collaboration with local entities, the community and some artisans from Monchique. The aim is to rethink and requalify places and local production, to contribute to the settlement of the population, reframing people's lives and their practices in the contemporary rural environment, through strategies for valuing local culture, in a municipality that holds a very rich cultural heritage. rich and with an aging and gradually decreasing population. As part of a qualitative study, the research is developed through short-term fieldwork missions in Monchique, alternated with project phases in a studio environment, in an academic environment (FAUL, ESECUALG) and periodic presentations and discussion of the results obtained with the population and local entities. The projects arise from the observation of real problems identified in situ, from visits to places of cultural and social interest, meetings with local agents, visits to artisans' workshops, consultation with specialists, workshops and exhibitions that provide direct dialogue with the population. With this study, we gain in-depth knowledge of the region, we provide the sharing of projects between designers and craftsmen, architects and local entities - as active multidisciplinary contributions, promoting the academy - society collaboration, and a great motivation for students getting involved with real design issues during their academic career. We therefore produce several proposals, within the scope of product design, communication, architecture and urbanism, suggestions that provide a strong development and knowledge of a village, located in the interior of the Algarve. |
