Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Inflammatory Bowel Disease is a chronic and recurrent condition, characterized by the World Health Organization as a disease that is currently difficult to treat. This condition affectsthe gastrointestinal tract, manifesting itself in heterogeneous ways and affecting different anatomical regions depending on the type of disease, i.e. Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease. Inflammatory Bowel Disease, common in industrialized countries, has been recorded with a progressively higher incidence in Asia and South America. This spread is the result of a combination of dietary and immune factors, potentially associated with lifestyle. In this sense,it emerges as a global disease that, due to its chronic nature, requires continuous and rigorous clinical intervention, culminating in increasing pressure on health systems. Pharmacological therapy, which aims to induce and maintain remission of the pathology, is divided into several pharmacotherapeutic classes that have a high potential for developing complex adverse effects. In this context, there has been a significant increase in research into natural products, including mushrooms and their bioactive metabolites, which play a crucial role in traditional Chinese medicine, recognized for its holistic approach. This work focuses mainly on the potential of three mushrooms, Ganoderma lucidum,Grifola frondosa and Hericium erinaceus in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, with a main focus on immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and intestinal microbiota regulatory actions, which can positively influence the modulation of gastrointestinal symptoms. Possible limitations to their use are also highlighted.
