Dificuldades e Necessidades do Cuidador Informal: Um estudo no Município de Cantanhede
| Resumo: | In view of the growing number of people in need of support from third parties, it is imperative to recognize and support informal caregivers, as a fundamental element of today's society. Caregivers are individuals dedicated to providing care to another person, whether they are family members or not, take on this activity, thus constituting the key element of support for the dependent person. They also need to be cared for, listened to and supported, and for that, it is essential to identify their difficulties and needs. Thus understanding the relevance of this theme, the present study intended to identify the difficulties and needs of Informal Caregivers in the Municipality of Cantanhede. This dissertation was carried out within the scope of a protocol between the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra and the Municipality of Cantanhede, as a result of this protocol, the project “CuidIn - Supporting and caring for the informal caregiver” was created. The study design focuses on the mixed method, encompassing the quantitative and qualitative aspects, of a descriptive, exploratory, correlational, transversal and observational character. Data collection was carried out with informal caregivers in the Municipality of Cantanhede using a non-probabilistic approach for convenience and the structured interview technique, with the help of a questionnaire designed for this purpose. After collecting the data and applying the inclusion / exclusion criteria previously defined, a sample of 96 informal caregivers was collected. With the results of the study carried out, we found that dependence is associated with age, however it is not only the result of the aging process, but also other factors of origin such as congenital or acquired deficiencies, the most frequent reason for dependence being from nervous system diseases and mental disorders. Care continues to be provided in a family context, by women and more often elderly people are taking care of elderly people. This fact causes difficulties for the caregiver, mainly due to old age. In general, caregivers report feeling a lack of personal and technical support. The role of informal caregiver for the most part is a difficult one to perform, in which there is no support, it is important to give the caregiver an opportunity to mention the implications of their occupation. They should be valued more and more, because to take care they must also be taken care of. |
