Resumo:The city of Porto is constantly evolving, with an economic and urban expansion that can be experienced mainly from the Industrial Revolution in the nineteenth century. However, it suffered and still suffers from a spatial segregation caused mainly by the attempt to dissolve the "islands" in the Center, which gave rise to the formation of social neighborhoods scattered around the periphery, creating a sense of spatial discontinuity and social inequality. Also the need to expand the territory, which resulted in the requirement of a network of infrastructures and road support elements, caused a total disintegration of different areas of the city. Campanhã is the easternmost parish of the municipality of Porto, peripheral and extensive in the way it is dispersed in the territory, with a fragmented and irregular structure. The existence of numerous social housing estates without connection to each other determines the urgency of something that brings them closer together, that enables interaction and contact between communities. In addition to an urban dynamic that allows this approximation, it is necessary to think about how to generate opportunities for the integration and improvement of the living conditions and formation of memories of this public in collectivity, so that they can feel part of something common. With a high unemployment rate and an increasingly aging population, with little mobility and low incomes, it is essential to offer a space that allows to mitigate the needs and weaknesses of this population, creating conditions for the occupation of free time in a productive way. Architecture, here, must intervene directly in social and economic life, based on integration and receptivity. Thus, the development of this dissertation and consequent project, arises from the reflection on the influence of architecture in society as a response to the problem of segregation, highlighting the possibility of uniting and strengthening communities, making them self-sufficient through, in this case, an Occupational Center in Monte da Bela, in Corujeira, in Campanhã. Converging at a point where leisure and proactivity meet to strengthen ties and grow as individuals, contributing to collective thinking and social well-being, this project is, above all, an attempt to create an aid to financial independence and support for education.
