Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:RTP's regional delegations play an essential role in the media representation of the Central Region, ensuring news coverage of sparsely populated areas that are often absent from the national media agenda. This study analyses the contribution of the RTP delegations from Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda and Castelo Branco, with the aim of understanding the extent to which regional information is integrated into national news content and, at the same time, identifying the news produced for regional information. The research was developed based on five dimensions: the frequency with which regional reports are included in RTP1's news line-ups; the categorisation of news into regional, national and mixed; the most recurring thematic areas; the distribution of news coverage of the Central Region among the delegations; and journalists' perceptions of their role, available resources and main constraints.Methodologically, content analysis of news items broadcast on the programmes Portugal em Direto, Bom Dia Portugal, Jornal da Tarde and Telejornal was combined with an interview to a journalist from the RTP delegation in Viseu. This triangulation allowed us to understand the visibility given to the Central Region in national programmes; the most privileged topics and the constraints associated with regional journalistic production. The results show that the delegations in the Central Region are essential structures for informational plurality and for the affirmation of local realities in the national media space. The study presents empirical evidence on the mechanisms through which the delegations articulate local production with editorial integration in national news programmes, by offering relevant elements for editorial decisions, for resource management in regional delegation and for the definition of public policies on public service media.
