Património Cultural, Museus e Memória da Violência Política. Estágio No Museu Nacional Resistência e Liberdade – Fortaleza de Peniche
| Resumo: | This report aims to study the relationship between cultural heritage, museums and political violence, specifically how heritage and museums can contribute to safeguarding and disseminating the memory of the political violence practised by the Estado Novo regime. The aim of this study is to combine a theoretical argument with an analysis of the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom, where the internship took place, and the activities carried out during the internship. Bibliographical research and a case study were therefore the methodologies indicated for a complete and coherent study. In order to fulfil this objective, the first chapter presents a theoretical argument that explores concepts of political violence, memory, history and heritage and museums, exposes norms, conventions and ethical issues that guide the practice of museums of political violence and ends with an analysis of the Portuguese reality. Subsequently, the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom, the internship entity, is characterised and analysed in the second chapter, taking into account the history of the place where it was founded, the Peniche Fortress, the conditions that allowed it to be founded and its mission and museological narrative. The third chapter characterises the activities carried out during the internship. As we will try to demonstrate, museums dedicated to safeguarding and disseminating memories of political violence are also spaces for promoting democratic values and human rights, mobilising memories for the present and helping to build a future geared towards enhancing these values. In order to achieve these goals, initiatives to complement the long-term exhibitions are essential. |
