Resumo:The Dissertation Project is part of Project Atelier B, entitled “Equipment and Public Space – Build the Limit”, and is composed of a thematic line of urban design and the creation of equipment and public space. The Atelier for the academic years 22/23 and 23/24 is dedicated to the study of the Pole 2 Zone of the University of Coimbra, with the specific theme “From Place to Form – new ways of living” in the North Zone of Pole 2, which also includes a Senior Residence, a Student Residence and a Civic Center for community and social support, with this work giving special emphasis to the themes of Coliving and Intergenerationality. It is located in an area that is underdeveloped at an urban level, which needs to be explored and experienced: the Pole 2 Zone of the University of Coimbra, located to the south of the city, and developed in the late 80s and early 90s as a expansion of the University. It is now intended to carry out a critical review of this Zone in order to resolve the identified problems, through the creation of a more specific urban design that aims to establish a relationship with the existing one, adjacent to the Pinhal de Marrocos, which has never been intervened on. Thus, the objective of this work lies in the attempt to urbanize and create a relationship between the various points of the project: the existing and the new interventions, such as collective housing, residences, new paths and the Pine Forest. The Dissertation aims to demonstrate that there are “new ways of living”, namely for elderly and young people, in order to strengthen intergenerationality. The creation of common spaces that enhance cohabitation and well-being between these two generations is, without a doubt, a great challenge in terms of aspects related to mobility and their different daily needs. For this reason, the two focal points of this project are, on the one hand, its vision to the outside, with the creation of patios that interconnect the Residences and the different environments, and, on the other, the common interior spaces on the ground floors, enhancing both Coliving. In this way, interior/exterior permeability and the expansion and fusion of the different environments are guaranteed through the creation of large openings, which allow spatial continuity, and resort to other strategies that guarantee the experience of the spaces.
