The impact of science and technology in basic education in Mexico
| Resumo: | Changes occurring in Latin American countries as a consequence of the incorporation of new informationand communications technologies (ICT) in educational programs are becoming increasingly evident. One example of these changes is the dynamics of companies worldwide, where knowledge and information are considered fundamental factors for the development and growth of enterprises. This raises the urgent need to recognize an element that has always been present in organizations, but that has never been valued as much as it is now, which is knowledge in four stages: Know What, Know Why, Who How and Know Who, (OCDE 2000). The four stages support the development of learning, entrepreneurship for the development of projects, the initiative of creating products or services, creativity and innovation. Therefore, the integration of science and technology in curricular contents promotes and encourages progress in developing countries. To date, the quantitative evaluation has been made by using various tests like Plan (National Plan for the Assessment of Learning) and Pisa (Programme for International Student Assessment), however these are not focused on promoting priority areas which are of great importance for the development of the individual, and of the country as well. So, the incorporation of the use of science and applied technology in the learning process, in educational institutions in Latin America, namely through their inclusion in educational programs starting from the first years of schooling, is considered crucial. |
