Defensives: technological reflections through a CTS approach

Resumo:The growing concern about the quality of life and the future draws the attention of teachers to the great responsibility on the social function of teaching and education. The school, in turn, has the great task of highlighting the values of society and promoting the student’s conditions to contribute more consciously and more critically to the techno-scientific events. The present study aims to present and evaluate the comparative results of a survey conducted among students from three municipal schools in the state of Rio de Janeiro, with students from the 9th grade of the municipal network and students from the first high school of the state and private, totaling 68 students interviewed. The methodology used was the use of the controlled controversy technique, addressing as the central topic of discussion the use of Agricultural and Natural Defensives, since this region is known as a major producer of vegetables and vegetables supplying several cities of the State. The questions used were taken from the Science, Technology and Society (COCTS) Opinion Questionnaire of the Ibero-American Science, Technology and Society-Related Assessment Project (PIEARCTS) and correspond to questions 40211, 40531 and 80131, whose focus are the decisions that guide discoveries and uses of Science and Technology for social welfare. As a result, it was possible to perceive that there is a difference of positioning in front of the subject addressed between public and private school students.Keywords: CTS, PIEARCTS, Basic Education, Agricultural Defenses; Social welfare.
