Ver documento

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Over the last two decades, the international literature in the field of prison studies, but also in areas of public health and the administration of justice, has been highlighting specific issues related to the progressive increase of the incarceration of older people. However, there are few social studies about this theme in Portugal the institutional policies directed to respond to the specific needs and characteristics of this group are non-existent. Drawing from a set of ten interviews conducted with women in the Female Santa Cruz do Bispo Special Prison Establishment, this paper aims to understand the meanings attributed to aging in prison, by taking into account the narratives produced by inmates over 50 years about their experiences and, post-incarceration expectations.
