Tourism revenue for the North Region of Portugal: an econometric analysis

Resumo:The purpose of this study is to build a model that allows estimating the Tourism Revenue for the North Region of Portugal. To achieve the Multiple Linear Regression Model estimated by Ordinary Least Squares Method it was selected 13 economic variables and collected 72 monthly observations for the period between January 2006 and December 2011. The empirical analysis showed that the model of First difference of LOG is the econometric model that explains better the tourism revenue for the North Region of Portugal. The model as well indicated that the tourism revenue are influenced by variations occurred in the number of national and foreigners tourists, in the available income of the national and foreigners tourists and still in the typology of the hotel establishment. Although of the high increase of foreign tourists in the North Region and hotel investment, the domestic tourism was the main contribution for the tourism revenue.
