Building leadership for the future: evaluating a leadership training program

Resumo:This study aims to investigate what are the behavioural, cognitive and social skills developments behind a leadership-training program learning source. After, the objective is to measure the impact of those developments on ISCTE-IUL students from the Master of Science in Business Administration (MScBA) course. The choice of this theme holds on to the motivation and passion that rose after I have experienced a leadership-training course, which was enclosed in the MScBA program provided by the Portuguese Marine Corps. My attendant is Alvaro Rosa, a professor that was always present during the time I was doing my Finance and Accountancy degree and which I sincerely estimate. Through this thesis I’m going to explore the functional leadership model, its bases of social identity and values, as well as its potential sources to acquire domain-specific leadership expertise. Also, I aim to identify and investigate what are the teamwork structures and practices that contribute to team effectiveness and cohesion to operate efficiently in a specific environment, building a unique culture. Psychological Capital is now, more than ever, highly rated. This is the sum of positive opinion about the organization held by people outside the organization. A recent article in The Economist affirms that business is considering that integrity and corporate citizenship matter the most. Teaching how to focus on a continuous dynamic of the self, others and work context has become a value added practice that several companies are already searching for.
