Effects of classic psychedelics in anxiety on a naturalistic setting: A systematic review
| Resumo: | ABSTRACT: Introduction: Recent scientific investigations have unveiled a remarkable potential of classic psychedelics in therapeutic interventions. However, the current body of research remains largely preliminary, existing a need for more comprehensive research to unlock their full potential and ensure their safe and effective integration into mental health care. Objective: This systematic review aims to assess the existing body of evidence regarding the impact of classic psychedelics on anxiety when used in naturalistic settings. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted with no date restrictions using the following electronic databases: PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycInfo, and Web of Science. Results: Out of the 1,705 articles from the initial search yielded, 11 were selected for inclusion in this review. Conclusion: The majority of the studies included in the review indicate a decrease in anxiety, supporting the idea that classic psychedelics, when administered in a natural setting, effectively alleviate anxiety, even over an extended period. |
